Battery take-back scheme REBAT: volumes again increased

Having contracted more than 300 producers, CCR REBAT stays the largest producer-owned scheme in the German market. The volume of taken-back batteries has again increased by ten per cent compared to 2012.
The battery regulation obliges battery producers to take back and recycle all batteries that have been distributed by resellers and registered as waste with public disposal institutions free of charge. Currently the required collection quota of used batteries is 35 per cent, 2014 it will be raised to 40 per cent.

For REBAT customers, CCR takes care of all related producers’ obligations and tasks. Their service includes the placing of collection containers, their pick-up plus the correct recycling. All mass-flow is comprehensively documented on behalf of modern IT systems. Moreover, CCR takes care of the registration and documentation against authorities.
Unlike other providers, CCR affiliates offer this system as well in other European countries. Multinational producers may thus benefit from one central organized management of their take-back obligations.

In 2013 REBAT has collected and recycled 3.138 tons of used batteries or accumulators. With an achieved collection quota of 37 per cent, REBAT exceeded again the legal requirement. 98 per cent of the collected used batteries could be recycled according to legal and environmental standards; important resources such as lead, steel, zinc or ferromanganese could thus be recovered. They are now available as secondary material and may be used for the production of new products.

With REBAT, CCR facilitates thus one more time to closed material loops and helps to protect the environment and resources.
